The washbasin is at the centre of the Galassia catalogue: ceramic pieces recognised for their design and their practicality, made to be fitted on the wall or resting on a countertop. That choice shapes the rest of the bathroom, because the height, the unit and the space left free underneath all depend on it. Its Lola and Core collections sum up the approach: ceramic, clean forms and a clear function, with no added decoration. The washbasin is exactly why we chose it. When the bathroom is small, a wall hung or countertop piece with a restrained line is what lets you gain space without giving up design, and it is the first place we look when a bathroom has very few metres to spare.

Frequently asked questions
What does Galassia make, and since when?
Galassia Srl was founded in 1980 in the ceramic district of Civita Castellana, in Italy. It makes sanitary ceramics: washbasins, sanitaryware, shower trays and bathroom furniture, as well as kitchen sinks, utility room pieces and outdoor pieces. The manufacturer states more than 500 products in its catalogue and a presence in 77 countries, with 160 employees and a subsidiary in Spain.
What are the advantages of a ceramic washbasin over other materials?
Galassia attributes to its ceramic durability and resistance to acids and alkaline solutions, as well as resistance to scratches, knocks and external agents. The manufacturer adds that it is easy to clean, so it needs less detergent and less water, that it is hygienic and anti-allergenic, and that it is fireproof without releasing harmful substances. It also notes that it withstands extreme temperatures and light.
What is the Higherglaze glaze?
It is the glaze Galassia applies before firing on its washbasins and WCs. According to the manufacturer, it gives a smooth surface that resists dirt and limescale, scratches and abrasion, and that makes cleaning easier. The manufacturer itself presents that ease of cleaning as an environmental advantage, because it reduces the use of polluting products and of water.
What certifications does Galassia hold?
The manufacturer declares the management systems ISO 9001:2015 for process quality, ISO 14001:2015 for the environment and ISO 45001 for occupational safety. At product level it declares IAPMO R&T certification to the UPC, to the National Plumbing Code of Canada and to the ASME A112.19.2-2018/CSA B45.1-18 standard, as well as an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) based on life cycle assessment (LCA).
How much water does a Galassia WC flush use?
The manufacturer declares flushes of under 4.5 litres. Galassia presents this within its sustainability section, alongside other process measures such as reusing treated water in production, which according to the company has cut water consumption per kilo of product by 15%.
Can the washbasins be fitted on a countertop, wall hung or free standing?
All three options exist depending on the collection. In the Core collection, for example, the manufacturer offers countertop washbasins, coordinated with ceramic tops in the same colour, wall hung washbasins with their specific fixing brackets, and a freestanding version on a metal frame. The published dimensions for that collection range from a countertop washbasin 25 cm in diameter to one of 55x36 cm, by way of the round ones of 37 and 45 cm.
