Frequently asked questions
What is a Sira washbasin made of, and how many colours is it made in?
Sira makes its concrete with local components mixed with organic pigments. The manufacturer describes the composition as sand, water and cement, to which it adds natural pigments, and explains that its craftspeople polish the pieces by hand until the desired texture is reached. All its pieces are available in a total of 12 shades, inspired by the colours of the Earth and its ecosystems.
How is a concrete washbasin cleaned day to day?
Sira advises using a pH-neutral cleaner and a soft, non-abrasive cloth. The manufacturer also recommends using coasters under soaps and wiping up spills as they happen, with cold water and a soft cloth. It also asks you to avoid leaving wet or damp items on the surface, to prevent stains or marks.
Which cleaning products should I avoid?
According to Sira, the washbasins must not be cleaned with any product containing bleach, nor scrubbed with metal brushes. The manufacturer asks you to keep away any corrosive liquid with high pH levels, and expressly mentions bleach, lemon and nail polish remover. If accidental contact occurs, it says to rinse immediately with water and then carry on with the usual cleaning.
Does the washbasin need waxing or any other treatment?
Sira states that its washbasins can be waxed when needed, for example when the original waxing wears off. The manufacturer explains that the wax creates a protective barrier that gives the concrete greater stain resistance. It does not set a specific frequency for repeating the operation.
Is it normal for stains, scratches or small cracks to appear over time?
Yes, the manufacturer itself says so: stains, scratches and small cracks are likely to appear on the washbasin as it ages. On the air bubbles in the concrete, Sira notes that they do not affect the porosity of the product, and in general it presents that natural variation as part of the material, where each small imperfection means singularity. It is worth bearing in mind before settling on concrete.
What warranty does the manufacturer give, and what falls outside it?
Sira states that all its products have a 36-month warranty from the original date of purchase, and recommends inspecting all washbasins on delivery or before installation. The manufacturer expressly excludes from the warranty all the singularities arising from the natural life cycle of concrete, such as pitting, discolouration or small cracks, which it does not consider manufacturing defects. It also notes that, given the nature of the material, it does not offer refunds.
